Jeanne and Robert had just moved into their new house, a Victorian mansion that had been in Robert's family for generations. They were excited to explore the place and discover its secrets.
One day, Jeanne decided to check out the attic. She climbed the stairs and opened the door. She was greeted by a dusty and cluttered space filled with old furniture, boxes, trunks and suitcases. She felt like she had stepped into a time capsule.
She walked around the attic and looked at the items. She saw a rocking horse, a dollhouse, a gramophone, a typewriter and a sewing machine. She wondered who had owned them and what stories they could tell.
She spotted a steamer trunk in the corner. She was curious to see what was inside. She opened the lid and found some clothes, books, photos and toys. She rummaged through them and found a red ball and some jacks. She smiled as she recognized the game from her childhood. She had played it with her friends many times.
She closed the trunk and carried them downstairs. She went to the study, where Robert was working on his laptop. She said hello and told him what she had found in the attic.
She opened a drawer of the desk and put the ball and jacks inside. She said she would play with them later. Robert nodded and smiled. He said he was glad she was having fun exploring the house.
Jeanne left the study and went to the kitchen to make some tea. Robert watched her go and then turned his attention back to his laptop. He was working on a story about the big Victorian house where they now live.
He glanced at the drawer where Jeanne had put the ball and jacks. He felt a sudden urge to play with them. He remembered how much he enjoyed playing jacks when he was a kid. He used to be very good at it.
He decided to take a break from his work and have some fun. He opened the drawer and took out the ball and jacks. He cleared some space on the desk and spread out the jacks. He bounced the ball and tried to pick up as many jacks as he could before catching the ball.
He felt a surge of joy as he played. He forgot about his report, his boss, his deadlines and his worries. He felt like a child again.
He heard Jeanne coming back from the kitchen with two cups of tea. He quickly put away the ball and jacks in the drawer and pretended to be working on his laptop.
Jeanne entered the study and saw him typing on his keyboard. She smiled and handed him a cup of tea. She said she hoped he was not working too hard.
Robert looked at her and smiled back. He said he was just getting started. He thanked her for the tea and took a sip.
He asked her if she would like to play jacks with him later. He said he had found them in the drawer and thought they looked fun.
Jeanne was surprised and delighted by his suggestion. She said she would love to play jacks with him later. She said she had played it when she was a girl and had enjoyed it very much.
They smiled at each other and shared a moment of connection. They felt closer than ever.
They decided to finish their work quickly so they could play jacks together later.
They looked forward to having some fun in their new home.
